Phase 1 Implementation of ActivitySim Travel Demand Model

Insight supported the Phase 1 implementation of the ActivitySim model – an advanced, open-source activity-based transportation model – for the Twin Cities area. Insight led the testing of the phase 1 model by performing four different sensitivity tests. These tests included a Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) base tax scenario, adding a new transit project in the system, an increased telecommuting scenario, and a Transportation Network Companies (TNC) cost change scenario. Insight also developed the model summary dashboards using the ActivitySim visualization tool for all the scenarios. The work allowed MetCouncil staff to become more familiar with innerworkings the model, as well as informed the team of the adjustments needed to the model parameters and procedures to improve its readiness for Phase 2 implementation.

Insight was able to successfully implement the Phase 1 ActivitySim model on a local machine, perform the above sensitivity tests and develop a report within a three weeks' timeframe.
